The reputation of a law firm is ultimately a reflection of the people who carry it into every courtroom, negotiation, and client consultation. At AQ Law Associates, we have assembled a team in which judicial experience, decades of advocacy, cross-border legal expertise, academic grounding, and institutional management work in concert to deliver legal services of genuine distinction.
Our team spans the full spectrum of legal practice — from a founding partner whose career culminated in nearly nine years on the bench of the Lahore High Court, to advocates with deep experience in domestic and international litigation, to a retired civil judge who brings the perspective of having presided over proceedings as well as argued them. Each member of our team is here because they share a commitment to the same values: integrity, thoroughness, and an unwavering dedication to the interests of the clients we serve.
Together, we offer something that no individual lawyer — however talented — can offer alone: a genuinely collaborative legal practice, where the complexity of your matter is met with the combined expertise of an experienced and cohesive team.
Mr. Justice (R) Ch. Abdul Aziz is the Founding Partner of AQ Law Associates and one of Pakistan’s most distinguished legal figures, whose career spans nearly three decades of exceptional service in the law — as an advocate, as a judicial officer, and as an educator. His presence at the helm of the firm provides AQ Law Associates with an institutional depth and a strategic perspective that is virtually unparalleled in private practice in Pakistan.
Appointed to the bench of the Lahore High Court in November 2016, Mr. Justice Abdul Aziz served with sustained distinction until March 2025. Over the course of his judicial tenure, he presided over approximately forty thousand cases of diverse legal nature, delivering judgments — particularly in the domain of criminal law — that have contributed materially to the development of jurisprudential principles relating to evidence, procedure, and the administration of criminal justice in Pakistan. The breadth and consistency of his judicial work reflect a career on the bench defined by fairness, precision, and a deep commitment to the integrity of the legal process.
Prior to his elevation to the Lahore High Court, Mr. Justice Abdul Aziz spent over twenty years in active advocacy practice, with a primary focus on criminal litigation. During this period, he appeared regularly before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the High Courts, handling matters of substantial complexity — including white-collar crime, anti-terrorism proceedings, homicide, and accountability forum litigation. His service as a Special Public Prosecutor on behalf of the Federal Government further deepened his understanding of prosecutorial frameworks and state litigation strategy, giving him a vantage point that very few advocates in Pakistan can claim.
Beyond his practice and judicial career, Mr. Justice (R) Abdul Aziz has made significant contributions to legal education and institutional capacity building. He has served as visiting faculty at Bahria University and the International Islamic University, Islamabad, delivered training lectures at the National Police Academy and the ANF Academy, collaborated with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Government of Pakistan on prosecutorial and investigative training initiatives, and participated in international judicial forums involving SCO member states. These contributions reflect a career shaped by a genuine commitment to the rule of law — not merely as a professional discipline, but as a public responsibility.
Mr. Justice Abdul Aziz holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, and has been enrolled as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan since April 2010. He is an active member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, and the Islamabad Bar Association. As Founding Partner of AQ Law Associates, he provides every client matter with the unique advantage of judicial insight, strategic clarity, and the authoritative legal perspective of a practitioner who has argued at the highest levels of the bar and presided at the highest levels of the bench.
Mr. Sardar Shabbir Hussain is the Managing Partner of AQ Law Associates and one of the firm’s most senior legal voices, having practised law continuously since 2002. Holding a Bachelors Degree in law (LLB), he has built a career of considerable breadth and depth across criminal law, civil litigation, and constitutional matters, earning the trust of clients navigating some of the most consequential legal challenges that Pakistan’s courts present.
His elevation to the rank of Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan is a mark of sustained professional achievement that reflects both the quality of his legal work and the esteem in which he is held by his peers and the legal fraternity. Over more than two decades of practice, Mr. Sardar Shabbir Hussain has appeared before courts at every level of Pakistan’s judicial hierarchy, representing individuals, businesses, and institutions in matters that have demanded not only knowledge of the law, but the courage and strategic acumen to deploy it effectively under pressure.
In his role as Managing Partner, Mr. Sardar Shabbir Hussain oversees the firm’s day-to-day operations and the management of its caseload, ensuring that every matter handled by AQ Law Associates reflects the professional standards and client-centred approach that the firm’s reputation is built upon. His combination of courtroom experience, institutional judgment, and longstanding commitment to the firm’s founding values makes him a cornerstone of the practice in every sense.
Rashid Mehmood brings to AQ Law Associates something that is rare and genuinely invaluable in legal practice: the dual perspective of a lawyer who has both argued cases before the courts and presided over them from the bench. With almost two decades of service as a judicial officer, Rashid Mehmood has an intimate, ground-level understanding of how civil proceedings are managed, how judgments are formed, and what arguments and evidence courts find genuinely persuasive — as distinct from what merely sounds compelling in the abstract.
Following his retirement from judicial service, Rashid Mehmood joined AQ Law Associates as a Senior Counsel, bringing the accumulated institutional knowledge of his judicial career to bear on the firm’s litigation strategy. His contributions go well beyond research in the conventional sense. He examines the procedural and substantive dimensions of complex matters with the analytical precision of a former judge, identifies the evidentiary and legal issues that are likely to be determinative, and provides the kind of internal critique of proposed legal strategies that allows the firm to refine its approach before a matter reaches the courtroom.
Rashid Mehmood was called to the legal profession upon his conferment of the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in the year 2001, whereafter he commenced the practice of law in the same year. Following tenure of his judicial service culminating in his retirement therefrom, he thereafter pursued advanced academic scholarship, earning the degree of Master of Laws (LLM) with specialisation in International Commercial Dispute Resolution from the esteemed University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. In further testament to his professional eminence and erudition in the field of alternative dispute resolution, he holds a distinguished membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), one of the foremost and most venerable professional bodies governing arbitral practice across the globe.
In a firm already distinguished by the judicial insight of its Founding Partner, Rashid Mehmood’s addition deepens that advantage further — ensuring that AQ Law Associates approaches civil litigation with a level of judicial intelligence that very few practices in the country can match.
Abdullah Khalid joined AQ Law Associates in 2021 as an Associate and has since progressed to the position of Senior Associate, a progression that reflects both his professional development and the substantive contribution he has made to the firm’s practice — particularly in the areas of cross-border litigation, intellectual property, company matters, and international dispute resolution.
Abdullah holds a Bachelors degree in law (LLB), and is enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Pakistan. He additionally serves as a Senior Associate at an international law firm on a remote basis, a role that keeps him actively engaged with cross-border legal practice and the evolving demands of international commercial litigation.
Abdullah’s work at AQ Law Associates spans a genuinely international scope. He has handled civil and family law matters for clients based in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia — jurisdictions whose procedural requirements, substantive law, and court expectations vary significantly — and has achieved a strong success rate in matters involving US-based proceedings. His expertise in intellectual property law enables the firm to offer clients meaningful protection and enforcement strategies for trademark, copyright, and related rights across multiple jurisdictions. He is also well-versed in company law and alternative dispute resolution, offering clients a commercially informed perspective on the resolution of business-related legal disputes.
Abdullah’s international profile and comparative legal training make him a distinctive asset in a firm whose practice increasingly extends beyond Pakistan’s borders — and his client-centred approach, grounded in the firm’s core values of transparency and results-oriented representation, has made him a trusted point of contact for a growing number of AQ Law Associates’ international clientele.
Sawaid Ul Hassan has completed his Bachelor of Law from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), one of Pakistan’s most selective and academically rigorous institutions. He joins AQ Law as an Associate, marking the start of a promising legal career built on a strong academic foundation. At the firm, he works under the direct mentorship of senior lawyers and the Founding Partner, gaining hands-on exposure to live matters across criminal, civil, and constitutional practice areas.
At AQ Law Associates, Sawaid Ul Hassan plays a pivotal role in drafting comprehensive legal instruments while demonstrating sharp legal acumen in research and case management with an active participation in the firm’s mediation and arbitration practices.
AQ Law Associates places considerable emphasis on the professional development of its Junior members, and Sawaid-ul-Hassan’s strong academic background positions him well to grow into a capable and well-rounded litigator. He brings to the firm the energy, intellectual rigour, and curiosity that mark the beginning of a truly promising legal career.
Reyan Qureshi recently completed his Bachelor of Laws at The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) and serves as a Trainee Associate at AQ Law Associates. His internship represents an important bridge between legal education and professional practice, providing him with direct exposure to the workings of an active litigation firm at one of the most formative stages of his legal development.
At AQ Law Associates, Reyan is engaged in legal research, case preparation support, and document review across the firm’s various practice areas, developing the foundational skills — analytical, procedural, and professional — that will underpin his future career as an advocate. The firm is committed to providing its interns with substantive and educational experience, and Reyan’s final-year engagement with active legal matters ensures that his transition from the classroom to the profession will be both informed and purposeful.
Abdul Haseeb serves as Administrative Officer at AQ Law Associates, providing essential operational support across the firm’s day-to-day administrative functions. His responsibilities encompass a broad range of tasks that keep the firm’s internal processes running smoothly — from the coordination of correspondence and document management to supporting the scheduling and logistical requirements that a busy litigation practice demands.
Abdul Haseeb works in close coordination with the firm’s Management to ensure that administrative matters are handled with diligence and efficiency, allowing the legal team to remain focused on their clients and cases. His role, though firmly behind the scenes, is a meaningful part of the professional standard that AQ Law Associates maintains across every dimension of its work.
Muhammad Altaf Khokhar is the Manager of Administration and Finance at AQ Law Associates and one of its longest-serving members, having been associated with the firm since its establishment. With over two decades of continuous service, he is in every meaningful sense the institutional backbone of the firm’s operations — a steadying and indispensable presence whose contribution to the firm’s stability, continuity, and growth across its entire history cannot be overstated.
Muhammad Altaf Khokhar holds responsibility for the full spectrum of the firm’s administrative and financial functions, encompassing office management, accounts, billing, client fee administration, financial planning, compliance, and the day-to-day operational oversight that keeps a busy litigation practice running without friction. His longevity with the firm reflects both the quality of his work and the profound trust that the firm’s leadership places in his judgment, discretion, and professional integrity. In a practice defined by transparency and accountability, it is entirely fitting that the stewardship of its administrative and financial affairs should rest with a professional of his experience and unwavering commitment.
Every member of AQ Law Associates is here because they believe in the same things: that clients deserve the best, that the law matters, and that professional excellence is not optional.
